What is Six Sigma?

Many companies want their employees to be very skilled and bring with them many assets. One way to make sure their employees are contributing fully to the company is to encourage training to strengthen the skills they already have and to teach them new ones. While there are many options and training courses available, one that many companies are turning to is that of the Six Sigma methodology. Six Sigma is a way of running a company so that there are no defects in the processes. This means getting rid of obstacles and wasteful processes that might negatively impact a company such as increased costs or reduced productivity. In this lesson we will learn how a companies apply Six Sigma through levels of training for their employees.

The focus of this lesson is on the Yellow Belt certification. While there are many different levels of certification, Yellow Belt certification is for those employees that are just learning Six Sigma practices and methodologies. These individuals have very little knowledge of Six Sigma and may want to advance in both their roles at the company, as well as their involvement in Six Sigma.

What Does a Yellow Belt Offer?

So what does Yellow Belt certification offer a company? What do Yellow Belts do once they are certified? Well, after training, Yellow Belts will have gained valuable knowledge about Six Sigma. This knowledge allows them to act as a subject matter expert and become a valuable member of projects. They actively look for processes that need improvement, so that costs and waste can be minimized, and quality can be improved. They help to gather data and help solve problems, all while being an asset to other certifications such as Black Belts and Green Belts.
