Getting Started with Study.com's College Courses: Student Tour

Instructor: Jessica Bayliss
Hello and welcome to Study.com's College Accelerator! In this video, we'll give you a quick tour of Study.com so that you have everything you need to get started.

This video shows what you'll see on your computer screen. You can do almost everything on our mobile app too - it just looks a little different. The mobile app is a great way to study when you're on the go and even allows you to download videos to watch offline.

When you first log in you'll see your dashboard. This is your home base, where you go to check on your course progress, see your exam scores, and more. We'll go over the most important features on the dashboard a little later.

First, let's get started on a course. Your Success Coach may have assigned your first course. You can also access it by searching for the course title using the search bar.

On the course homepage you'll see a list of all the lessons in the course. The lessons are divided into short chapters. You can also click on the syllabus tab to get an overview of what you'll learn and how you'll be graded. To complete the course, you need to go through each lesson and quiz, as well as take the final exam. When you're ready to get started, just click on the first lesson.

Many students like to watch the video first and then read the transcript to reinforce the concepts. You can study the material in any order you prefer. You can even just read the transcript or just watch the video - it's completely up to you. When you feel comfortable with the lesson, you're ready for the short multiple choice quiz. You'll get your results right away. You have three tries to score 80% or higher on the quiz. You can go back and review the material between quiz attempts, and we even tell you the exact spot of the video to review for missed questions.

As you progress through the course, you can check your course progress back on your dashboard. You can also return to the course page to see a lesson-by-lesson breakdown of your score. After each chapter you have the option of taking a practice chapter exam to review what you've learned. This is optional but great practice for your final exam.

When you've completed the course, it's time to study for your final exam! There are several ways to study. You can always review the lessons and even retake the quizzes or chapter exams. You can also take the practice final exam or drill with course flashcards. When you feel ready, it's time for the proctored final exam. This is the only part of the course that you need to complete on a computer rather than your phone or tablet. You'll also need a webcam and 2 hours of uninterrupted time to take the final. The final is a large portion of your grade, but don't worry! You can retake it 2 times and we'll help you identify areas to review if you don't do as well as you want the first time.

Now you've completed a course and earned your first transferable credits from Study.com! You can see all of your final scores back on your dashboard. You can also access a couple of handy tools that will help you throughout the course. Study Trainer is a unique feature that allows you to set a study schedule and get reminders when it's time to study. It's a great way to make sure you are staying on track. Instant Answers will connect you with our tutors who can explain concepts and help you with your course material. Just ask a question to receive a detailed answer in no time! From the dashboard, you can also easily jump into your next lesson or quiz.

And that's it! If you have questions, reach out to your Success Coach at any time by using the support tab on study.com or emailing support@study.com - we're here to help you every step of the way.
