TExES School Counselor Exam Dates

Instructor: Bill Sands
The TExES School Counselor Exam is administered on several occasions throughout the year. Read on to get the exact test dates and learn how to register.

Test Dates for the TExES School Counselor Exam

Unlike most tests in the TExES series, the School Counselor exam is not offered on a continuous basis. Instead, there are several fixed dates for which candidates must register.

These tests are offered during three-day testing windows that occur throughout the year. For the 2017 calendar year, these windows include:

  • February 1-4
  • March 22-25
  • May 10-13
  • June 28-July 1
  • August 16-19

Registration Deadlines

In order to sit for this exam, you'll need to register ahead of time. ETS (Educational Testing Service, the company that administers the exam) provides lengthy registration periods, which begin around four months prior to a testing window.

Though you have a generous amount of time to register, it's recommended that your register as soon as possible, as spots may fill up quickly and you could miss out on a testing session.

Registration closes 48 hours before the testing window begins.

How to Select an Exam Date

You can select a test date during the registration process, which is explained below.

#1. Getting Started

You'll need to first create an account on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) website. When you do this, you'll be assigned an ID number.

Next, you'll need to create a separate account with ETS, using your TEA ID number. If you have taken an exam through ETS in the past, you can use your existing information when registering.

The last step before choosing your date is the terms and conditions page. You'll be shown a series of regulations and compliance statements that require you to agree to abide by all ETS policies.

#2. Scheduling Your Test

After you agree to comply, you'll be taken to the scheduling page. Here, you can choose which test you would like to take and indicate your preferred testing date.

Available dates and times are dependent on your testing center.

#3. Review & Payment

Once you've made your selection, you'll be prompted to review of the information you have provided. Be very careful to double-check your selections and confirm that everything is in order. Any changes to your testing appointment after this point will come with an extra fee.

Next, you'll need to enter your payment information. The fee for the TExES School Counselor exam is $131.

Once your registration processes, you'll be issued your admission ticket, which serves as confirmation of your registration. Be sure to save and print a copy of this ticket; you'll need it on test day - along with your photo ID - to enter the testing site.
