Decision Support Systems

In today's business world, technology is the key to staying on top, keeping organized and ensuring every aspect of your business is being handled efficiently. There are various types of information systems that can be used to manage internal office data, organize business-related materials, manage customer service efforts and assist with decision making. In these lessons, you'll learn about such information systems and see how they work to improve businesses.

You will be introduced to systems that gather, store, organize, manage and display information about a business that can help managers at all levels to make decisions. Such information can be used to make decisions that affect certain aspects of a business, day-to-day business operations, management processes and overall business goals.

The systems you will learn about include Decision Support Systems (DSS), Business Intelligence (BI), Management Information Systems (MIS), Executive Information Systems (EIS), Group Decision Support Systems (GDSS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Discover how DSS can help managers to analyze data to make non-routine decisions. Find out what BI does and how it helps with data management. Learn more about MIS to see how historical data is gathered and used. Find out how EIS combines features of DSS and MIS to provide a tool for upper management. Figure out what GDSS and GIS do to help with decision making.
