Adult Education Programs in Maryland with School Info

Several community colleges in Maryland offer education programs designed specifically for the adult student. Adults can elect to take non-credit courses or pursue a diploma in a wide range of career-related or personal enrichment topics. Montgomery College's Adult Education Programs

Montgomery College, centrally located in Rockville, Maryland, offers courses for older adult students in computers, finance, art, language and gardening through its Workforce Development and Continuing Education Department. Programs that are also offered include general education diploma (GED) and English for students of other languages (ESOL) programs.

General Education Diploma Programs

The GED program at Montgomery College prepares students to take the high school diploma equivalency test. Programs are available at two levels for those who require additional education or those who are ready for the GED test.

English for Students of Other Languages Programs

The ESOL programs are offered at various levels to fit the needs of the students. Courses are offered to help English language learners prepare for careers in areas of healthcare, the building trade or customers service, along with a citizen preparation class.

Art Courses

The Workforce Development and Continuing Education department offers several art courses. Course topics include drawing and painting, digital photography, graphic design and digital arts and printmaking.

Carroll Community College's Adult Education Programs

Carroll Community College is located in the north central region of the state in Westminster. The college offers personal enrichment courses for adult students through its Continuing Education Department. Courses are offered in the arts, writing, literature and health and wellness in addition to ESOL and GED programs.

General Education Diploma Programs

Carroll Community College's GED program prepares students for the GED exam. Students may enroll in a practice test course before taking the actual exam.

English for Students of Other Languages Programs

ESOL programs at Carroll, available at several locations, are free. Also on the curriculum are advanced classes and online ESOL courses.

Arts Courses

Courses in the arts comprise drawing, painting, watercolors, sculpture and photography. Students interested in crafting may take stained glass and knitting courses, among others.
