Adult education in audio and sound system technology is offered as degree and apprenticeship programs. Curriculum for an Audio and Sound System Technology Program

Students in an audio and sound system technology program will engage in a myriad of courses. Topics include circuit analysis, sound editing and synthesis, advanced recording techniques, electronic circuits, nature and control of sound, the history of sound arts, the recording business, advanced digital sound, sound arts form and design, computer based audio production, audio studio maintenance, multi-track recording, and audio aesthetics. Students may also learn the practical skills of installing various electrical equipment and making needed repairs and adjustments. An undergraduate program typically requires an internship to learn and practice the necessary hands-on skills.

Salary Information and Career Outlook for Audio and Sound System Technicians

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual salary for sound engineering technicians, as of May 2015, was $53,330 while audio and video equipment technicians had a median annual salary of $41,440.

Broadcast and sound engineering technicians were projected to have a job growth rate of 7% from 2014 to 2024.
