The East Coast hosts two schools that offer top music production programs, leading to bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees. A number of tracks within baccalaureate programs are offered, depending on the career goals of the students, but all include some hands-on training in addition to didactic instruction. 1. Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA

School Highlight: Faculty members at this school have worked with highly-esteemed artists in the music industry, such as Alicia Keys, Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Bruce Springsteen.

Berklee College offers a major in music production and engineering and minors in music production and recording and commercial record production. Each program is unique in its coursework, incorporating hands-on music production training. Upon its founding, the college placed emphasis on teaching jazz; but it has since expanded to include rock and hip-hop.

2. New York University in New York City, NY

School Highlight: Located in Greenwich Village, this university's campus is thriving with musical inspiration as this area is steeped in long-rooted artistic culture.

Within the Steinhardt School, students can pursue a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in music technology. At the bachelor's level, students are exposed to recording technology, ear training, music theory, and acoustics. The master's and doctoral degree programs provide specialized concentration areas that focus on technological or computational aspects of music production.
