Chiropractic Assistant Job Duties

Chiropractic assistants' duties include keeping a chiropractic office in line throughout the business day. This might include registering arriving patients, checking out departing patients, managing patients' files, checking in and out chiropractic equipment and supplies, maintaining billing and coding, recording vital signs and answering phones. Some other smaller duties may include the following:

  • Maintaining and keeping track of office supplies
  • Verifying insurance
  • Sorting mail
  • Transferring patients
  • Maintaining an orderly work area
  • Laundering towels and gowns used in the office
  • Maintaining other inventories

Chiropractic Assistant Requirements

All chiropractic assistants should have strong verbal and written communication skills and a proven track record from past employers for job attendance.

Chiropractic assistants are required to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Some offices also require a year of previous experience in a medical or chiropractic environment and a minimum words-per-minute typing speed.

There are many chiropractic assistant secondary education programs throughout the United States, which can help an individual obtain a position within an office. These programs are dedicated to teaching students how to think critically and organize both themselves and an office. Subjects include anatomy, physiology, business, medical terminology, recording vital signs and chiropractic history.

There are several certifications chiropractic assistants often earn, which can assist in obtaining positions and higher pay. Some of the certifications include a Certified Chiropractic Assistant, Chiropractic Assistant Advanced and Chiropractic Assistant Basic. Training in a related field, such as physical therapy, can sometimes be applied to a job as a chiropractic assistant.
