In an associate's degree program, students take business courses common to any business management program; however, emphasis is also placed on how course topics relate specifically to cosmetology and the salon environment. Coursework may also include material covering industry-related software and technology so students can learn how to streamline daily activities. A typical program includes courses such as:

There are some bachelor's degree programs in business that emphasize cosmetology; however, there may be a limited number of these programs.

It is more common to find programs in business or business management. Some programs can even be completed online or throughout the course of several weekends. With an associate's degree, most bachelor's degree completion programs take about two years to finish.
