CLEP is the Solution

College Board's CLEP (College Level Examination Program) exams are the solution, a low cost way to earn college credit. The CLEP is a credit-granting exam that works just like an AP test - take a test and earn real college credit that you can transfer to over two thirds of all US colleges and universities. By taking CLEP exams and testing out of your general education requirements, you could cut the cost of your degree in half. CLEP exams cost only $80, as compared to the $600 average cost of a traditional college course.

There are 33 subject specific exams to choose from and each exam awards anywhere from 3-12 college credits. Exams are offered at 1,700 testing centers nationwide and the credit can be transferred to over 2,900 US colleges and universities.

If you are looking for a way to prepare for free you have two options, visit your local public library to find textbooks to study for the exam, or take online courses such as Study.com's own online courses.

If you're looking for a low cost way to earn college credit and avoid student debt, test out of your general education requirements by taking the CLEP. Start by choosing your exam from the list of 33 subject specific exams. Take your exam for $80 at one of the 1,700 testing centers. Earn up to 12 college credits, and then transfer your credits to over 2,900 colleges and universities.
