Life Strategy Coach Career Information

Life coaches work in collaboration with clients to help them achieve their personal aspirations or career goals. They help clients to create a vision and overcome obstacles that block achievement of goals. Though many therapists are also certified life coaches, life coaching is not a form of therapy. Therapy generally focuses on healing while life coaching concentrates on the attainment of specified goals.

Individuals can work chiefly as life coaches or they can provide coaching as an adjunct to counseling, ministry or business management. Life coaches work one-on-one with clients in person, by phone or via the Internet. They can also work with organizations to help set and accomplish organizational goals.

Certification Options

The International Coach Federation (ICF) offers various credentials for life coaches. ICF offers the credential Associate Certified Coach, which requires the completion of 100 coaching hours with a minimum of eight clients. A Professional Certified Coach must complete 750 hours of coaching and work with at least 25 clients. Finally, a Master Certified Coach must have 35 clients and complete 2,500 hours of coaching.
