Introduction to PC Maintenance Course

This beginning course covers basic concepts of personal computer (PC) maintenance and repair, such as hardware and software installation, system optimization and basic troubleshooting. Students are introduced to a variety of operations and maintenance techniques, as well as safety and anti-virus procedures. At the end of the course, students are able to install and add operating system software and hardware, customize operating features, configure networks and provide basic PC support services.

PC Operating Systems Course

The focus of this course is to help students master the installation, configuration and maintenance of an effective PC operating system. It provides a deeper look at hardware and software installations and common problems. Students learn to optimize primary and secondary storage, increase memory, manage data storage, create shortcuts and copy disks.

PC Hardware Course

Students in the PC hardware course learn the essentials of computer hardware structure and set up. They learn to identify microprocessor types and specifications, diagnostic tools, operating systems and troubleshooting features. Students also get an overview of video displays, audio hardware, hard disks and CD-ROM drives. At the end of the course students have a basic understanding installation procedures for hardware devices, such as printers, as well as an ability to build a basic hardware system from scratch.

Computer and Networking Technologies Course

A course in computer networking covers basics such as establishing a network, interconnecting existing data networks and configuring network settings. Topics covered in the course include LAN and IP networking processes, router functions and advanced networking systems. Students learn about a variety of network systems, installation and security procedures. After completing the course students should be able to implement networks, assign IP address and establish network security, as well as transport layer protocols and be able to perform routing protocols though the Internet.
