Interior architects may offer consultations, work with manufacturers to provide custom materials, or recommend color schemes and furniture displays.

Colleges and universities offer bachelor's degrees and certificates in interior architecture. The certificate option is offered as a professional certificate in interior architecture. This option is for those who have a bachelor's degree in another area and do not wish to become certified. For licensed architect positions, a bachelor's degree in architecture is required in addition to the completion of the Architect Registration Exam. In 2015, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported annual median salaries of $76,100 for architects.

Space designers must be aware of building codes and other barriers when providing clients with design recommendations.

Typically, a professional certificate in either interior design or interior architecture is required for those looking to work as space designers. Upon completion of an interior design program, students may have the opportunity to become certified as part of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Exam. Additional state certification exams may also be available. While the BLS doesn't have data for space designers, it does report that interior designers made $48,840 in 2015.

Landscape architects are also hired to preserve natural habitats, rehabilitate current land areas or preserve pieces of historical property.

A Bachelor of Landscape Architecture is a typical degree program completed by landscape architects. Students in such a program learn planning schemes for urban, regional and historic areas. Upon completion of this bachelor's degree program, students may become licensed by taking the Architect Registration Exam. If a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture is unavailable, students may choose to get a general bachelor's degree and then pursue a Master of Architecture.

It is typical to find landscape architects working for private architectural, engineering or environmental firms. Other areas of employment include city offices, state parks and other government agencies. The BLS reported a median salary of $63,810 for landscape architects in 2015.
