Gwinnett Technical College (GTC) is a 2-year public college enrolling more than 7,000 students in 50 program areas. Continuing education and adult programs add another approximately 11,000 students. The college is composed of 14 educational categories, from the arts and sciences to welding and construction. CAD drafting programs are offered through the school's construction department.

The Drafter's Assistant Certificate program requires 10 credit hours, or three courses. Students learn about CAD fundamentals, technical drawing and computer basics. The certificate can be earned in one semester and is required as a prerequisite to the CAD operator and advanced CAD operator programs.

Students of the 22-credit hour CAD Operator's Certificate program must be enrolled in the drafting technology degree or diploma program at the time of enrollment. They choose a concentration in mechanical drafting or architectural drafting. For those in the mechanical drafting specialization, required courses include 3-D mechanical modeling and two advanced technical drawing courses. The architectural drafting concentration includes courses in architectural fundamentals, residential drawing and architectural 3-D modeling.

Students can complete the Advanced CAD Technician Certificate program in three semesters. It requires 35-36 credit hours depending on the chosen concentration area: mechanical drafting or architectural drafting. The 45-credit hour Drafting Technology Diploma program includes general education courses, and students must also choose from the mechanical or architectural drafting concentrations as well.

In the Associate of Applied Science in Drafting Technology program, students complete technical courses such as CAD fundamentals, introduction to computers and technical drawing. As in non-degree programs, students must complete a concentration in mechanical or architectural drafting. The 60-credit hour program takes a minimum of four semesters to complete.
