The University of Notre Dame is a Catholic university that ranked 19th on U.S. News & World Report's list of best national universities for 2012. Notre Dame offers a Master of Arts in Early Christian Studies. Students in this program learn ancient languages so they can study Christian literature in original dialects. Other classes include liturgy, philosophy and history.

2. Duke University in Durham, NC

In 2012, Duke University ranked tenth on U.S. News & World Report's survey of the best national universities. The Divinity School is a seminary affiliated with the United Methodist Church. However, the school also offers programs for students who aren't seeking ordination, such as the 1-year Master of Arts in Christian Studies program. This program consists of eight courses designed to help students interpret Scripture and determine their path of service in the church.

3. Mississippi College in Clinton, MS

Forbes.com ranked Mississippi College 24th on its list of best college buys in 2009. The college is associated with the Mississippi Baptist Convention and offers a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies. A minor in Christian studies and philosophy is also available. Course topics include Bible studies, Biblical languages and ministry studies.
