In general, marketing management programs teach students to create, advertise and deliver goods and services to customers. They are typically offered through university business schools and can lead to an undergraduate degree or Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in marketing. Three of the nation's top schools for marketing management include Emory University, the University of North Carolina and the University of Wisconsin. Each of these schools offers a graduate marketing program, and all have been ranked nationally by one or more publications.

1. Emory University in Atlanta, GA

Emory University's Goizueta Business School ranked fifth on Bloomberg Businessweek's list of best undergraduate business schools for 2012. That same year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Emory's graduate marketing program 22nd in the country. Marketing students take lab courses that focus on solving problems for outside businesses. They can also choose from electives in sales and business development, consumer behavior, non-profit marketing and biotechnology market analysis.

The university also offers a marketing analytics certificate program (EmoryMAC). Features include an annual marketing analytics conference, where executives, faculty and students convene to apply marketing theories to practical situations.

2. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

In 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) 29th among national universities. In 2010, it also placed 13th on Washington Monthly's list of top national universities.

UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School, which was cited by Bloomberg Businessweek in 2012 for the quality of its marketing program, offers an MBA with a concentration in marketing. Program emphasis is on marketing strategy and analysis, customer management and product management. Students learn through case studies and small-group experiences. A select group of students can also pursue a leadership immersion course, which helps them build management skills through personalized coaching, competitions, simulations and outdoor team-building activities.

3. University of Wisconsin in Madison

The University of Wisconsin in Madison (UW - Madison) ranked among the 50 best national universities in 2012, according to U.S. News & World Report. The university's Wisconsin School of Business offered the 4th-best marketing program in the world, as designated by the Financial Times of London in 2011. The school offers degree and research opportunities through the A.C. Nielsen Center for Marketing Research and the Center for Brand and Product Management. Business students also have access to over 50 clubs and organizations, including the Graduate Marketing Network.
