In general, marketing management programs teach students to create, advertise and deliver goods and services to customers. They are typically offered through university business schools and can lead to an undergraduate degree or Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in marketing. Three of the nation's top schools for marketing management include Emory University, the University of North Carolina and the University of Wisconsin. Each of these schools offers a graduate marketing program, and all have been ranked nationally by one or more publications.

Emory University offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Marketing students can become involved in fieldwork and solve problems for outside businesses. They can also choose from electives in sales and business development, consumer behavior, non-profit marketing and brand management. The university also offers The Marketing Analytics Center (EmoryMAC). Features include an annual marketing analytics conference, where executives, faculty and students convene to apply marketing theories to practical situations.

In 2014, the University of North Carolina placed 12th on Washington Monthly's list of top national universities. UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School offers an emphasis in marketing. Students learn through case studies and small-group experiences. MBA programs allow students to focus on customer management, product management, marketing strategy and market analysis. Undergraduate students may choose to pursue a marketing management emphasis within the business undergraduate degree.

The University of Wisconsin was ranked 17th on Washington Monthly's 2014 list of top national universities. The school offers degree and research opportunities through the A.C. Nielsen Center for Marketing Research and the Center for Brand and Product Management. The Center aims to teach students marketing principles and discover new ways to disseminate material through research. Business students also have access to over 50 clubs and organizations, including the Graduate Marketing Network.
