1. Yale University in New Haven, CT
Yale University is third on the U.S. News & World Report 2011 list of the best universities in the nation. Its master's program in archaeological studies is composed of eight courses and requires a graduate thesis. Students are given three years to finish this degree program.
Yale's master's program prepares students for a variety of careers in education and cultural areas. The program also provides continuing education for archeologists and other professionals. Course credits are designed to be transferable to schools that offer Ph.D. programs in this field.
2. Columbia University in New York, NY
Ranked fourth on U.S. News & World Report's 2011 list of top national universities is Columbia University.
Columbia offers Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy programs in archaeology through its Department of Anthropology and Department of Art History and Archaeology. Students can also arrange Ph.D. programs with other departments at the school, including the Department of History, Department of Classics, and Department of Middle East and Asian Languages and Cultures.
