School Overviews

Formal education programs for athletic trainers can be found at nationally and regionally ranked universities, including Ithaca College, the University of Texas in Austin and California State University in Long Beach. All three of these schools offer both bachelor's and master's degree programs.

1. Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY

School Highlight: The School of Health Sciences and Human Performance offers over 1,700 organizations across the country in internships and fieldwork where students will work with professionals in the field.

The college offers a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and Master of Science in Exercise and Sports Science through the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. The M.S. offers three separate concentrations. Students in the athletic training program work with the college's 25 sports teams throughout their education. College facilities include indoor and outdoor pools, a state-of-the-art fitness center with a climbing wall and wood-floor gym.

2. University of Texas in Austin, TX

School Highlight: For six consecutive years, 'U.S. World & News Report' has ranked UT's College of Education #1 in the nation in research expenditures.

One of the oldest institutions in the state and one of the largest universities in the country, UT offers a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, a Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology and a Ph.D. in Philosophy. The Athletic Training Program at UT has a limited enrollment of 60 students.

3. California State University - Long Beach in Long Beach, CA

School Highlight: The Kinesiology Department at CSU offers several scholarships for undergraduates.

Through its Kinesiology Department, CSU offers a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and Exercise Science and Master of Science in Exercise Science. A M.S. is also available in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition, Sport and Exercise Psychology and Sports Medicine and Injury Studies.
