About Wilsonville, Oregon

Wilsonville, Oregon, is conveniently situated 19 miles from Portland next to the I-5, and has the Willamette River running through it. A small city, its population is 22,026, as of 2014 U.S. Census data. The majority of the residents of Wilsonville, about 85% in 2010 census info, are Caucasian and 12% are Hispanic. Nearly all residents, 92%, have a high school diploma and 39.3% have earned at least a bachelor's degree.

From Wilsonville, it is just an hour's drive east to the Cascades or under two hours west to the ocean. Residents can hike or ride bikes at Champoeg State Park, which is just south of the city. Charbonneau Golf and Country Club is located here along with numerous public parks and gardens.

Educational Opportunities

Pioneer Pacific College, a proprietary institution offering undergraduate programs, is the only school in Wilsonville. Almost 50 schools are found within 20 miles of the city, including Northwest College-Tualatin, Marylhurst University and Clackamas Community College.

George Fox University, ten miles away in Newberg, has bachelor's degrees and graduate programs for its nearly 4000 students. It was ranked 28th among regional universities in the West in 2016 by U.S. News & World Report.

Reed College, 93rd among national liberal arts colleges by U.S. News in 2016, is found in Portland. It offers bachelor's and master's degrees and serves about 1,500 students. Portland State University's downtown campus is less than 15 miles from Wilsonville. Students at this school can choose from over 120 majors and undergraduate programs, more than 70 master's programs and 18 doctoral degree options.

Other colleges in the area include Portland Community College, Lewis & Clark College and Warner Pacific College.

Economy and Industry

Major employers in Wilsonville include Tyco Electronics, Mentor Graphics and Xerox Corporation. Other major employers include the Coca-Cola bottling plant, the Rite Aid distribution center, and Fry's Electronics. The largest division of employment in Wilsonville is in sales, office and administrative support, followed closely by positions in management, business, and finance.
