Career Information for Introverts without a Degree

Electrician

Electricians are service personnel specifically trained to be experts in how electrical wires work and how they should be set up in a building. Electricians typically work for an employer who sends them out to clients' homes and businesses to certify, repair or install electrical wiring. They work both indoors and outdoors by themselves or in small teams after briefly interacting with clients. Electricians become certified after an apprenticeship or technical school program and are usually required to get licensed by the state.

Animal Care and Service Worker

Animal care and service workers help with dogs, cats, fish, amphibians, and other animals by providing services like bathing, feeding, walking, and grooming animals. Individuals can find work at kennels or zoos, but introverts may feel more comfortable working as a mobile groomer or pet sitter who works independently. This career can also provide help with social anxieties since working with animals can be a source of anxiety relief. Formal education is not required to be an animal care and service worker and on-the-job training is usually provided.

Medical Records Technician

A medical records technician is trained to enter health information into databases. They learn codes and classifications in order to process the data quickly and to efficiently maintain patient information. They typically work in an office setting at a doctor's office or hospital by themselves, but some can also work from home. Most positions require a postsecondary certificate.

Heavy Truck Driver

Heavy truck drivers transport items from one location to another, delivering all different kinds of goods from factories and distribution centers to the retailer. They usually drive alone for many hours at a time, sometimes having to be days and weeks away from home. Heavy truckers usually get trained at a truck driving school, and they must have a commercial driver's license (CDL).

Freelance Writer

Freelance writers are typically self-employed and work from home by themselves, interacting with clients over the internet. They can write about a variety of topics, such as for blogs and magazines. Freelance writers have the freedom to make their own schedule and choose who they want to work with, and none of it has to be over the phone or face to face. Although freelance writers may find more work with a bachelor's in the field, a degree is not required for every position if an individual can prove they can produce quality content and follow guidelines.

Assembler

Factory or manufacturing plant workers who put pieces of a product together are called assemblers. Assemblers typically have one job on the assembly line and repeat that task throughout the day, working alone at their station. Typically no college degree is required for entry-level positions, and training is often offered by the factory or plant.
