Social media account executives create content on a variety of social media platforms, such as Twitter or Instagram, that is intended to promote their clients' products or services. Their work involves communicating with clients regularly, identifying clients' goals and determining how to achieve those goals. They may help shape marketing plans, write or produce material and post content online as part of their duties. Social media account executives must constantly stay on top of current trends in order to keep their clients' services, as well as their own, competitive and relevant.

Social media account executives may also focus on expanding their client lists. They are responsible for using social media and other marketing strategies when attracting more clients that they can work for. Some social media account executives also work with public relations departments, brand managers or others involved with marketing strategies.
