Georgia has several public technical colleges that offer associate's degrees in the culinary arts field, and each college has baking and pastry courses available as part of its associate's degree program. All five colleges belong to the Technical College System of Georgia, and class choices are similar across most of the schools. Curricula for these programs include basic culinary skills and business classes, as well as hands-on work experience. These schools also offer culinary arts diplomas, which allow students the opportunity to hone their culinary skills without committing to an associate's degree program. Chattahoochee Technical College

Located in Marietta, Chattahoochee Technical College offers a culinary arts Associate of Applied Science at the school's Mountain View campus. The program explores culinary theory and provides kitchen experience. In addition to completing at least 15 credit hours of general education classes, students have the opportunity to take advanced culinary courses. Classes explore many aspects of the culinary industry, including cake decorating techniques in the advanced baking principles course.

Chattahoochee Technical College also offers a culinary arts diploma. The program does not include cake decoration courses, but it does cover basic baking principles. It may help students prepare for culinary advancement in another program.

North Georgia Technical College

North Georgia Technical College, with locations in Clarkesville, Currahee and Blairsville, offers an associate's program in the culinary arts and a culinary arts diploma program. Students pursuing the associate's degree complete 62 credit hours. Course requirements touch on baking principles, including instruction on the preparation of baked goods and baking tools. In-depth baking and pastry instruction is provided once students have completed the necessary prerequisites. For example, once students complete the baking principles course, they can enroll in the advanced baking and international cuisine course, which offers instruction on cakes and pastries.

Students pursuing a culinary arts diploma must complete 49 credit hours. The diploma program offers some of the same courses as the degree program, including the advanced baking and international cuisine course.

Savannah Technical College

With an annual enrollment of just under 5,000 students, Savannah Technical College in Savannah offers baking and pastry courses to students pursuing either a diploma or an associate's degree in baking and pastry arts or the culinary arts. Those in the baking and pastry arts degree program complete 66 credit hours over five terms, while students in the diploma program take 59 credits over four terms. Course requirements range from fundamentals of culinary arts to advanced baking techniques. Occupational course offerings include cake design and decorating, confection artistry and chocolate artistry.

The associate's degree program in culinary arts includes a course on advanced bakery techniques. Students complete 65 credit hours over five terms. The diploma requires 49 credits over four terms and includes the same culinary courses as the degree program without the general education requirements.

West Georgia Technical College

West Georgia Technical College in Waco provides students with the opportunity to pursue either an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts or a culinary arts diploma. Course offerings for both programs cover principles of the culinary field and provide students with the opportunity to take an advanced baking course. Advanced cake and pastry techniques are covered in classes offered in both the associate's degree and diploma programs. Students can learn the art of icing cakes and pastry arrangement.

Wiregrass Georgia Technical College

Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, located in Valdosta, offers an associate's degree program in culinary arts. Students take 15 general education credit hours and core culinary courses. Once the core curriculum is complete, students take 50 hours of occupational and advanced courses. Advanced classes cover restaurant operations, as well as advanced baking techniques. Program graduates can seek entry-level positions in the culinary field. A culinary arts diploma program is also offered.
