Cameraman courses can be found through 4-year universities, community colleges and private, for-profit films schools. They're typically offered through degree programs in filmmaking, videography or digital video production at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They are also offered as personal interest courses that don't lead to degrees, such as a standalone cinematography program at a film school.
Through these courses, students learn the basics of filming, lighting and editing, and they'll have access to various digital, HD, 16mm and 35mm cameras to hone their cinematography skills. Certification isn't a credential required to work as a cameraman.

Introduction to Videography
This cameraman course introduces prospective videographers to the use of video cameras as creative tools. Lectures cover technical aspects, such as video camera operation and maintenance. Cameraman certification programs are not offered as separate certification programs; they're typically offered through degree programs like cinematography, broadcasting and digital video. These programs are offered at many schools provide the basic skills necessary to film, edit and produce videos. Cameramen learn techniques for lighting, camera position and video editing. Post-productions topics, such as the addition of music, sound and other special effects, are also covered. These courses provide an in-depth overview of the skills needed to become a cameraman and typically take 2-4 years to complete.
