What Certification Programs Are in New Jersey?

According to New Jersey's Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, there are 66 colleges and universities in the state, including Princeton and Rutgers, two well-known universities. Certification programs from New Jersey schools cover many subjects, and they may be corporate, product-specific or professional.

Corporate certification may be earned through taking seminars and workshops. These certifications are often internal, and are usually developed by the corporation. Examples of corporate certification include Six Sigma, QS-9000 and ISO9001.

Product-specific certification is more advanced, and programs often center on software or operating systems. A good example of this product-specific certification is Microsoft's certification programs. Microsoft certification earned in New Jersey is valid in other locations, but is not valid for products other than the ones covered by the certification.

The third category of certification is professional certification. This certification is issued by professional organizations or state agencies to individuals who meet specific skill assessments, can apply professional standards and have the expertise to protect the public. Examples of this certification are Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credentials.
