Schools and Programs
Continuing education departments in various Georgia colleges and universities provide adults with the opportunity to train for careers or further develop personal interests. Many of these programs are offered through 4-year universities, with some resulting in a certificate. Students can prepare for careers in areas of healthcare administration, computer programming, education and business, among others. Some courses are designed for those currently working in their field who are seeking to enhance professional skills; others focus on personal development, such as those helping students build strong writing, computer or art skills. University of Georgia's Continuing Education Programs
The University of Georgia's Center for Continuing Education offers hundreds of continuing education courses, ranging from project management, business and technology skills and applications classes, to a wide variety of certificate programs. Both credit and non-credit courses are available, including many that are offered online.
Business and Leadership Courses
These classes are geared towards individuals seeking employment or wishing to broaden their skills in the areas of business, management and leadership. Courses are offered in human resources management, secretarial and office management skills, project management and supervision.
Technical and Administrative Healthcare Courses
A wide variety of healthcare courses are available, including medical terminology, clinical dental assisting, fitness business management and medical transcription. The majority of these continuing education courses are offered online with open enrollment.
Grant Writing Courses
This series of three courses culminates in a certificate in grant writing. Subjects include program development, writing skills, funding resources and nonprofit development.
Legal Studies Certificate Courses
The Center for Legal Studies at the University of Georgia offers six legal studies options, including a paralegal certificate program, victim advocacy certificate program and legal research course. Classes are both offered on campus and online. The Center for Legal Studies is a member of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations.
Reading and Writing Courses
Writing courses are available in business and technical writing, in addition to writing for children. A speed writing course and an editing course are also available.
Georgia Southern University's Continuing Education Programs
Georgia Southern University is a 4-year public institution. The school's continuing education department offers students courses, classes and certificate programs in professional and personal development, as well as youth programs. Some programs and courses are also offered online.
Personal Development Courses
This university offers courses in personal development. Some of the courses include topics such as digital photography, private piano lessons, writing classes, sign language, empowering women, and improving your credit score.
Professional Development Courses
A wide variety of courses are available for current professionals looking for additional education, including project management courses, resume building and interview skills, and real estate, banking and insurance.
The youth programs at this school are offered as summer programs or testing preparation classes. These programs include SAT prep in Math and Reading.
