Receptionists are usually the first point of contact for an organization, which requires making a good impression on all visitors. Administrative duties include answering and directing phone calls, responding to emails, coordinating incoming and outgoing mail, providing company information to the public and monitoring the access of visitors.

A receptionist can be employed in a variety of work environments, including large and small corporations, hospitals, doctor offices and government offices. There is no direct education path to become a receptionist; however, a high school diploma or GED equivalent is generally the minimum requirement. Employers often look for well-trained receptionist professionals.
