This slower than average growth could be attributed to advancements in technology and to a decrease in hiring other people to do this work. In addition, the BLS reported that the mean annual wage for word processors and typists in May 2012 was $36,190. As of the same year, the mean annual wage for data entry keyers was $29,220 (
