Educational leadership is the job of education administrators, including principals, assistant principals, school districts administrators and superintendents, directors and chief academic officers. Ranging from day care centers and elementary schools to postsecondary institutions, educational administrators formulate school policy, hire, train and fire teaching personnel, interact with students and oversee students' progress.

To succeed as an educational leader, an advanced degree and certification (if required by your state of residence) is necessary. For public and secondary school principals, a master's degree has become more or less standard; however, many administrators hold a Ph.D. From an advanced teaching degree to a doctor of education in organizational leadership, the highest education degree awarded, prospective educational leaders may choose from many degree options, some of which are shown below.
