Roofers install roofing materials, which may include shingles, rubber, asphalt, gravel or other substances, on the tops of commercial and residential buildings. Nearly all roofers gain their expertise through 3-year apprenticeships, in academic courses or by assisting other roofers. Though roofers aren't required to hold a formal degree, a wide range of educational training is available.
