Early childhood education programs are presented by several 2-year colleges and 4-year universities in the state of Michigan. Programs are offered at the associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. Certificate programs also exist, and may be taken online.

Graduates of some of the state's associate's degree programs in early childhood education can transfer to 4-year universities in pursuit of higher degrees. The programs might feature concentrations and full-or part-time study options. Depending on the educational level, they may include practicum, thesis or research project requirements.

Central Michigan University

Mt. Pleasant-based Central Michigan University offers bachelor's degree programs and a master's degree program in early childhood education. The bachelor's degree programs in child development consist of two tracks. The child development with elementary certification track focuses on preschool and elementary education and leads to K-8 teaching certification as well as an Early Childhood ZS endorsement. The child development early childhood concentration specializes in infant, toddler, and preschool education, and upon completion, students can seek employment as lead teachers in non-public Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) preschools. The master's degree program, which includes the Early Childhood ZS endorsement, is designed for certified elementary teachers and administrators specializing in early childhood education. The master's program requires students to complete 12 credits of student teaching.
