Essential Information

Florida offers few informatics degree programs, but students can still learn relevant skills in related programs that are offered at area colleges and universities. While health informatics is not exactly the same field as informatics, students can still learn computer science, information management and information technology fundamentals in these associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs.


Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University

This school is located in Tallahassee. The Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education. Students can expect to take courses such as health information systems, database management systems and healthcare informatics.

Florida Institute of Technology

Students can also pursue a degree in biomathematics from Florida Institute of Technology, located in Melbourne. The degree consists of 134 credit hours. Some required curriculum courses include software development, Java concepts and logic. Elective courses are also a part of the program requirements.

Florida International University

Students may also pursue a related degree program from this university, located in Miami. The Chapman Graduate School of Business offers a Master of Science in Health Informatics & Analytics. The program may be completed in as little as 12 months. Some required courses include health informatics, database management, information security and information systems.

Nova Southeastern University

Fort Lauderdale is home to Nova Southeastern University. The Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics curriculum consists of 43 credit hours. Some curriculum courses include medical informatics applications, information security in health care and management information systems in health care. Students also have the opportunity to pursue restricted elective courses.

Seminole State College of Florida

This school is located in Sanford. The Associate in Science in Health Information Technology program is also accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education. Students may be able to transfer credits to a 4-year program. Required courses include statistical methods, management of health information operations and health care computer applications and technologies.

Tallahassee Community College

Tallahassee is home to this college. Students may pursue the Associate of Science in Health Information Technology. The program can be completed in approximately 6 semesters. Required courses include health information and informatics management, database concepts and health statistics. A health informatics specialist certificate program is also available.

University of South Florida - Main Campus

University of South Florida - Main Campus is located in Tampa. The school offers a Bachelor of Science in Information Studies. The bachelor's degree curriculum includes courses such as programming, data structures and algorithms, information architecture and interactive design.
