How to Select a Holistic Medical School

The first decision most students will make when selecting a holistic medical school is what credential they're seeking. Holistic medical schools offer programs that award certificates, bachelor's degrees or master's degrees. Joint or dual degree programs in holistic medicine and another field are also available at some holistic health colleges.

Not all credentials are offered by all schools. Students most select a school and program based on their current educational credentials, the prerequisites for schools' programs and their professional goals. For example, a master's degree in holistic health studies allows a student to work at a higher level than a simple certificate.

Students also must consider the availability of specialties offered by holistic medical schools. Holistic medical schools offer instruction and specializations in different areas, including in homeopathy, reflexology, massage therapy and nutrition.

Another major concern for many students in selecting a holistic medical school is cost. Many of the largest schools offering holistic medical programs are private. Typically, public schools in a student's home state offer the least expensive tuition, while out-of-state or private schools are a more expensive option.
