Human services students emerge from school prepared to serve their communities in a number of different ways, in fields like social work, counseling, and therapy. Students in Kentucky may choose to earn an associate's or bachelor's degree in the field; both types of degree programs include general education courses. Brescia University is a private university located in Owensboro. The school offers two programs that might interest human services students: an Associate of Arts in Human Services and a Bachelor of Social Work. Associate's students are required to earn at least 63 for the degree. Brescia's social work program requires students to complete prerequisite courses in social work, sociology, psychology, and biology before they're accepted. The bachelor's program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Some social work courses offered by Brescia cover topics like human behavior, criminal justice, and death and dying.
Lindsey Wilson College
Lindsey Wilson College is a private Methodist college located in Columbia. The school offers one program geared for students who are interested in human services, the Bachelor of Arts in Human Services and Counseling. The program is offered by Lindsey Wilson's School of Professional Counseling. Semester with a GPA of 2.5 or better. Applicants will need to submit an application and letters of recommendation. Human services students will need to complete at least 45 credit hours in major courses. Some of the courses required include life span development, case management, and mental health administration. The program also requires that students complete three practicums and a comprehensive exam.
University of the Cumberlands
The University of the Cumberlands, in Williamsburg is a private liberal arts college with a student population of over 5,000. The Kentucky university offers two degree options through its Department of Human Services. The Bachelor of Science in Human Services program is designed for students pursuing social and human services careers. The 36-credit-hour curriculum covers a range of topics, such as human services surveying, research methods and policy, psychology, sampling and substance abuse. The bachelor's programs prepare students for careers in day treatment facilities, government programs, crisis intervention agencies, protective services and more. The Bachelor of Science degree is also available in a 100% online format. The Bachelor of Arts in Human Services students develop communication and analysis skills through coursework and a human services internship. The is similar to the curriculum required for the Bachelor of Science program. Bachelor of Science students must also complete one elective course from another academic discipline, as well as the foreign language requirement.
