Schools and Programs
Students can earn certificates at Michigan community colleges in a number of fields that will prepare them for careers. In some cases, the schools may even guarantee employment at the end of the program. These programs are available for many different careers, including quality inspectors, pharmacy technicians and office managers. Certificate programs are designed to be completed in a short amount of time. Two schools and some of their job training programs are listed below.

Lansing Community College's Job Training Programs
Lansing Community College is a public school that offers programs of study in many subject areas. The college's offerings in Career Pathways include six pathways, in arts and communication, business, management, marketing and technology, engineering/manufacturing and industrial technology, health sciences, human services, and natural resources and agriscience.
Arts and Communication
Students interested in the arts can choose from degrees and certificates from myriad areas. A computer graphics animation degree is tailored to multimedia designers. Degrees and certificates are available in digital media, audio and cinema, where students can learn how to professionally operate cameras and record and produce digital audio. Certificates and degrees are also offered in performing arts and photographic imaging.
Business, Management, Marketing and Technology
These programs offer the most options for students. Certificates and degrees can be found in accounting, computer programming, electronics, field sales and marketing, hotel/food services, medical administration, and paralegal studies.
Engineering/Manufacturing and Industrial Technology
Engineering, manufacturing and industrial technology programs include degrees and certificates in architectural technology, avionics, automotive technology, residential building, construction, welding, and heating, AC/building maintenance. Degrees are available in aviation, aviation maintenance, and machinist tool-making.
Health science degrees and certificates include diagnostic medical sonography, emergency medical services, histologic technology, nursing and paramedic studies. Degree programs are available in dental hygiene, radiologic technology, and veterinary technology. Certificate programs are offered in message therapy, medical assisting, and surgical technology.
Certificates and degrees in human services include child development, corrections, fire science technology, and sign language interpretation. Certificate program topics include gerontology and substance abuse. Degree program topics include human services and law enforcement.
Natural Resources and Agriscience
Certificate and degree programs in this area of study include chemical process technology, geographic information systems, and precision agriculture. Degree program topics include chemical technology, environmental technology, and molecular biology.
Wayne County Community College District's Career Training Programs
The Wayne County Community College District offers career programs at five locations in the Detroit metropolitan area. Among the institution's offerings are short-term job training programs. These certificate programs can help students build skills needed for jobs in specific fields.
Administrative Office Management Certificate
This program prepares students for employment in office environments. Training focuses on the use of common computer software, including Microsoft Word, Access and Excel. Providing quality customer service and resolving human resources issues are also addressed during training.
Grant Writing Certificate
Earning this certificate can prepare students to work with non-profit organizations. Training includes techniques for identifying funding sources, writing effective grant proposals and researching state and federal guidelines for funding.
Web Design Certificate
Students who are interested in learning how to create and design websites may find this a helpful program. Students learn about HTML coding and practice using Dreamweaver, Flash and other programs. Students that complete the class should be prepared to create dynamic websites using industry-standard software.
Human Resources Specialist Certificate
This program is designed for students who would like to work as HR professionals in public and private organizations. Students learn about the basic functions of human resources, employment law and standards for compensation. Training also includes instruction in how to determine staffing needs and effective hiring processes.
Computerized Accounting Certificate
This training program is designed for accounting professionals who are not familiar with computer accounting programs and would like to enhance their skills. Courses address the different functions computers can execute in accounting processes and give students training using QuickBooks.
