Erie Community College
Erie Community College in Buffalo offers two degree programs that provide food service and restaurant training. The curriculum in the 66-credit hotel restaurant management program covers topics in supervisory development, bar and beverage management, food preparation and purchasing. Students in the 72-credit culinary arts degree program gain the skills and training needed to work in the hospitality industry. They learn management and food preparation skills through courses in regional American cuisine, kitchen design, culinary purchasing and banquet management. Students in both programs also receive practical experience by working in a campus restaurant.
Kingsborough Community College
Located in Brooklyn, Kingsborough Community College offers an associate's degree program in culinary arts for students seeking careers in the food service industry. This 60-credit-hour program includes courses in menu and dining room management, restaurant operations, food safety and sanitation, garde manger and culinary arts. An internship and a capstone project are required. Facilities include an on-campus learning restaurant and a food product development facility.
LaGuardia Community College
LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City offers an associate's degree in food service management. This 60-credit program combines major coursework, core requirements and real-world training. Courses include food service administration, culinary arts, food purchasing and sanitation. An internship is required.
Mohawk Valley Community College
Located in Utica, Mohawk Valley Community College provides restaurant training through its food service administration/restaurant management and its culinary arts management associate's degree programs. These 2-year programs prepare students for mid-level management positions at restaurants and other hospitality operations. The curriculum in both programs includes food preparation, banquet and catering management, menu planning and safe food handling.
Nassau Community College
Nassau Community College in Garden City offers an associate's degree program in food service administration/restaurant management. This program prepares students for professional and management positions within the restaurant and catering industries. Courses include food and beverage operations, facilities planning and design, business math, food production and event planning. A summer internship or co-op experience is required.
Niagara County Community College
Niagara County Community College in Sanborn offers an associate's degree in culinary arts program that combines food service theory with practical, hands-on training. Students gain experience through laboratory work as well as by working in the college's student-run dining facility. Courses relevant to restaurant management include sanitation and safety, food supervisory management and purchasing. Students must complete 400 hours of work experience. This 64-credit-hour program requires a minimum of 42 credit hours in food service. The college also offers an associate's degree in hospitality management.
Onondaga Community College
Located in Syracuse, Onondaga Community College offers an Associate of Applied Science in Hospitality Management program that gives students the choice of several specializations, including restaurant management. This 63-credit program prepares graduates for management positions at restaurants, private clubs, catering operations and other food service settings. Students gain skills in areas such as food purchasing, restaurant design, cost control and special event catering. The hospitality management program also offers specializations in culinary management, food service/institutional management and hotel management.
Schenectady County Community College
Schenectady County Community College in Schenectady offers an associate's degree program in hotel and restaurant management. This 2-year program includes courses in food preparation, front office management, wines, dining room operations and hospitality industry technology. This 66-credit program requires a minimum grade point average of 2.0 to graduate. Schenectady County Community College also offers a 65-credit associate's degree program in culinary arts that provides training in subjects, such as banquet management operations, dining room management and human resources management, which are pertinent to a restaurant management career.
Suffolk County Community College
Located in Selden, Suffolk County Community College offers an associate's degree in culinary arts with options in restaurant management and baking and pastry arts. These 2-year programs are for individuals interested in careers within the restaurant management, culinary, hotel, baking and pastry management industries. Each option balances liberal arts, business and major courses. A 200-hour internship is required. These programs are transferable to 4-year degree programs.
Westchester Community College
Westchester Community College in Valhalla offers a culinary arts and management training major in its associate's degree program in food service administration. This program combines a basic liberal arts core with coursework in business management and culinary arts. It prepares graduates for careers in restaurants and other food service operations. A work experience course is also required. This program is transferable to 4-year degree programs.
