Students pursuing advanced online Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training might be required to already hold a current EMT-Basic certification and pass a Web-based pre-entrance exam. While distance learning students must complete the clinical requirements of practical training in person, some schools and training centers offer the classroom instruction through a Web-based platform. As such, programs can vary between strictly online curriculum and a blend of online and on-campus training.
Online courses use video conferencing, streaming audio and video, e-mail and discussion boards. Participation generally requires high-speed Internet access and a computer system capable of running plug-ins or other components of a virtual classroom.
