These programs are available at certificate, bachelor's degree, and master's degree levels, meaning both novice students and experienced professionals have the opportunity to pursue these programs. Students can specialize in web development, bioinformatics, and medical informatics.

Oregon Health and Science University

Oregon Health and Science University's online programs in biomedical informatics are offered through the Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology. Coursework can be highly specialized to match the student's chosen specialization.

Information and Requirements

The online programs are designed to aid students currently employed in the health care industry or in another field complete the program without interrupting their careers. Students working full-time typically take one or two classes per term, spending 10 to 15 hours each week on reviewing lectures, reading assignments, taking quizzes and other activities.

The school's online graduate certificate in biomedical informatics teaches students to apply information technology to health care, while the online master's program in biomedical informatics includes tracks in bioinformatics and medical informatics.

The online Bachelor of Science program in informatics includes concentrations in computer networking and telecommunications or Web development. Required courses for the major include an introduction to Web development and leadership in information networking. Concentrations in the online Master of Liberal Studies in Informatics program include information assurance, Web development and informatics with preparation for the Cisco Certified Network Professional.

Information and Requirements

All online programs at this university use Blackboard and feature asynchronous communication, such as CD-ROMs and DVDs, as well as synchronous communication such as internet protocol television (IPTV). Informatics programs are offered in partnership with the United States Navy, and many students pursue their online informatics degrees while actively serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Information and Requirements

Although prospective students only need a high school diploma to be considered for admission, those with an associate's degree may use their prior credits to exempt themselves from various general education requirements.

Upon completion of this program, graduates of WGU's health informatics program are considered eligible to take the AHIMA Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credentialing exam.
