Broadview University offers a 36-month Bachelor of Science in Paralegal degree program. Graduates may pursue legal office management positions in law firms, courts and the legal departments of corporations and government agencies.
Online course topics include law office management, legal research, supervisory management, legal terminology, keyboarding, legal writing and American legal systems. Legal office management technology courses, such as computer information systems, technical communications and Microsoft Office Professional, are also part of the curriculum. All students must take a paralegal externship/internship to gain hands-on legal office management experience. Internships lead to full-time employment for about half of the students.
Broadview University provides support to students through such means as online tutoring and telephone assistance lines. Students use Blackboard educational software to access online resources, including course assignments and library items, and communicate with their instructors and classmates.
The Kaplan University School of Legal Studies offers a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies program that consists of interactive classes and seminars. Students are required to take online quizzes and complete a capstone legal project. They must research legal topics and take notes for online discussion. In addition to courses in legal studies, general education and legal office management, students must complete a class that covers the skills needed for effective online study.
Working attorneys and legal professionals teach all online classes. Students have online access to legal materials at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Kaplan University is accredited by the Higher Learning Education Commission.
