Over 200 schools provide phlebotomy programs in the U.S. The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredits approximately 60 programs, most of which are offered by 2-year technical, vocational or community colleges. Below are some of the largest schools accredited by the NAACLS for phlebotomy training.

1. Cuyahoga Community College District in Cleveland, OH

School Highlight: Has the lowest tuition in Northeastern Ohio and is reported as having one of the lowest tuition costs in the state.

Cuyahoga Community College, located in Cleveland, Ohio, provides a variety of career-focused programs to more than 27,000 students. The 1-year phlebotomy certification program includes classes in blood collection, special blood collecting techniques, medical terminology, medical ethics, asepsis, human biology, and an eight week period of clinical hands-on experience in a hospital or medical clinic. Successful completion allows students to sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry Examination, or to continue studies for an A.A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology.

2. Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, WI

School Highlight: Successful completion of the program grants students eligibility to write national certification exams.

The 1-semester phlebotomy certification program at Milwaukee Area Technical College focuses on the skills and theory of phlebotomy. Students take classes and gain practical experience drawing blood at a medical facility. The college serves over 17,000 students and is located the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area.
