Program Description:

Southern New Hampshire University's Master of Arts in English and Creative Writing with a concentration in Poetry program is designed to help students nurture their appreciation for poetry, imagery, and verse through the study and analysis of poetry and literature. Coursework includes literary theory, psychoanalytic criticism, etymology, and practices for teaching writing. Students have the opportunity to study medieval literature, British literature, and American literature, including the realism, naturalism, and modernism periods. Authors may include Twain, Wharton, Cather, London Dreiser, Chesnutt, and early twentieth century poets. The program also introduces students to factors that influence the literary market, current trends in publishing, and the history of the publishing industry. The program culminates with students producing their own manuscript of poetry.
