Students in the Saint Cloud, MN, area can pursue programs through public and private institutions. These schools offer a wide variety of programs that can prepare students for any number of careers. The top three schools with the most variety have approximately 55-200 programs.
1- Saint Cloud State University
Saint Cloud State University is located in Saint Cloud and has over 200 programs, according to the university. Students can pursue undergraduate and graduate programs through eight different schools and colleges. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) listed the most in-demand programs from the 2011-2012 academic year. The most popular bachelor's degrees at the university included business administration and management, multidisciplinary studies, elementary education and mass communications. Business administration and management was the most pursued master's degree, while higher education administration was the most popular doctoral degree program.
2- St. Cloud Technical and Community College
Saint Cloud Technical and Community College is a 2-year, community college in Saint Cloud that has around 62 programs. In addition to transfer programs, students can earn certificates and associate degrees in business, construction technology, health and human services, manufacturing technology, nursing and transportation technology. The licensed practical nursing, electrician and welding technology certificate programs were the most popular, according to the NCES in 2011-2012. Liberal arts and sciences was the most pursued type of associate degree.
3- Saint John's University
Saint John's University has the third most program variety in the area with about 57 programs. The private college is located in Collegeville, about 14 miles from Saint Cloud. While the university offers a wide variety of programs at the undergraduate level, graduate level programs focus on theology and ministry. The NCES reported that the most popular bachelor's degree programs in 2011-2012 were in business administration, accounting and biological sciences.
Lowest Net Price
The net price of a school is determined after subtracting any aid offered by the government or institution from the total cost of attending. According to the NCES, the net price in 2010-2011 for schools in the Saint Cloud, MN, area ranged from about $8,000-$24,000.
1- St. Cloud Technical and Community College
The net price at Saint Cloud Technical and Community College was $7,890, which made it the lowest in the area. The NCES reported that in 2012-2013, tuition at the college was $5,293. In 2010-2011, 54% of all undergraduate students received federal student loans.
2- Saint Cloud State University
Students at Saint Cloud State University had an average net price of $11,344. Undergraduate tuition at the university was $7,472 for in-state students and $15,114 for out-of-state students, according to the NCES in 2012-2013. About 78% of students applied for need-based financial aid at the university, and 62% received some form of aid, according to U.S. News & World Report in 2011.
3- Saint John's University
The net price at Saint John's University is $23,776, which made it third highest in the area. Tuition at the college in 2012-2013 was $35,486. In 2010-2011, 99% percent of all undergraduates received some form of grant or scholarship aid.
Highest Graduation Rates
The graduation rates in the Saint Cloud area ranged from 34%-81%, according to the NCES. These rates were based on students who enrolled in a 4-year school in 2005 and finished their program within 150% of normal time, which would be six years for a bachelor's degree.
1- College of Saint Benedict
The College of Saint Benedict is located in Saint Joseph and is an all-female private, not-for-profit university. The school had a graduation rate of 81%. The NCES reported that the retention rate was 91% for full-time students who began in 2010 and returned in 2011. The college contains departments devoted to the fine arts, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences and professions.
2- Saint John's University
Saint John's University had a graduation rate of 80%, along with a retention rate of 89% for full-time students who began in 2010 and returned in 2011, according to the NCES. The 4-year graduation rate for students earning bachelor's degrees was 73%.
3- Saint Cloud State University
The overall graduation rate at Saint Cloud State University was 49%. The retention rate at the university was 69% for full-time students from 2010-2011, and the transfer-out rate was 33%, according to the NCES. The 4-year graduation rate at Saint Cloud State University was only 22%.
Lowest Student-Faculty Ratio
According to the NCES, the student-faculty ratios of schools in the Saint Cloud area ranged widely, from 11:1 to 24:1. The two private colleges in the region had the lowest student-faculty ratios, while the two public schools had the highest.
1- College of St. Benedict
The College of St. Benedict had a student-faculty ratio of 11:1, and the student population at the college was about 2,100. The college employed roughly 150 full-time faculty members as of 2011.
1- Saint John's University
The student-faculty ratio at Saint John's University was also 11:1, which tied it for the lowest ratio in the Saint Cloud area. The college had a population of about 2,000 students. About 140 full-time faculty members and 25 part-time faculty members were employed at the college.
3- St. Cloud Technical and Community College
St. Cloud Technical and Community College had the third lowest student-faculty ratio in the area at 23:1. There were approximately 4,700 students enrolled in the college. The college employed just over 100 full-time faculty members and 170 part-time faculty members.
