Schools and Programs
Continuing education programs, available at both universities and community colleges in San Antonio, offer degree and training programs to help students reach their educational and career goals. Programs may prepare students for certification exams, and some programs are offered in the evenings and on weekends. Students may also have the opportunity to complete an externship or an apprenticeship.

San Antonio College's Continuing Education Programs
San Antonio College, serving over 38,000 students annually, is the largest campus in the Alamo Community College District. Its Continuing Education division consists of ten departments that offer numerous occupational and short-term training programs for entry-level jobs in a variety of fields. This 2-year public school also provides full GED preparation in both English and Spanish, as well as multiple levels of English language instruction.
Certified Nursing Assistant Program
Following the Texas Board of Human Services curriculum, this 136-hour program contains equal parts classroom instruction and clinical experience. Infection control, safety procedures and basic nursing skills are addressed in the curriculum, in addition to understanding patients' multifaceted needs.
Web Development and Multimedia Program
This 5-course sequence is a popular continuing education program in the Technology Support department. The recommended courses for the Web development and multimedia program discuss Web design, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash and videocasts and podcasts.
Human Resources Generalist Program
The Professional Studies, Licensure and Certification Center provides a variety of seminars and certificate programs for working adults, such as the human resources generalist program. This 8-course program includes classes in job analysis and design, performance appraisals and federal employment law.
Law Enforcement Training Academy
Those with a high school diploma or equivalent wishing to serve their communities as peace officers may be eligible to enroll in San Antonio College's state-licensed training academy. Graduates from the 688-hour, 4-phase program can sit for the state peace officer exam.
University of the Incarnate Word's Continuing Education Programs
This private university offers certificate and adult degree completion programs through its Extended Studies department. Programs are available in, among others, areas of healthcare, education, business and legal studies. Following are some of the programs currently offered through Extended Studies at the University of Incarnate Word's four San Antonio learning centers:
Pharmacy Technician Certification Program
The 14-week pharmacy tech program consists of 84 hours of evening and weekend classroom instruction in pharmaceutical calculations, inventory management and pharmacy law, among other topics covered in the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. Additionally, adult students can participate in an 80-hour pharmacy externship.
Business Career Training Programs
Certificate and certification programs are available in a wide range of business-oriented careers, such as customer service representative, accounting, human resource management, project management and bookkeeping. A non-profit management certificate is also offered. Adult students can also pursue skills-enhancing certificates, such as those in leadership, entrepreneurship or finance essentials.
Legal Studies Programs
Students seeking to enhance or advance their legal careers can do so with various online courses offered by the Center for Legal Studies. Courses in employment law, legal research and writing, intellectual property law, mediation and victim advocacy are offered. The center also offers Legal Secretary and Paralegal programs.
Continuing Education for K-12 Educators
Offered entirely online, this career-enhancing program is designed for educators seeking to further develop classroom management, instructional and other relevant skills. Professionals can take courses that will help them work with children with learning disabilities, better teach math and reading fundamentals, address bullying in schools and create lesson and assessment plans for early childhood education students.
