While there are many graduate schools that are consistently ranked in the top 100 by education organizations, three stand out as the best: Harvard University, the University of California - Berkeley, and Princeton University. These schools offer a variety of graduate degrees, including programs in medicine, law, engineering, social sciences, and business. These universities offer master's and Ph.D. programs as well as professional degree and graduate certificate programs.

Harvard University

Harvard University's doctoral programs are highly ranked by a national research council assessment (2010). Harvard University's graduate programs are regularly ranked in the top ten in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, currently sitting at the #2 spot for national universities as of 2017. Academic areas receiving #1 rankings by this organization include Harvard's business and medical schools, as well as its programs in economics and political science. Harvard Law School is ranked #2 among its peers, and many more graduate programs are in the top 5. The university's many opportunities for study, manageable size of roughly 20,107 students, and Boston area location attract scholars and educators from all over the world.

University of California - Berkeley

The National Research Council ranked 48 of 52 of the University of California - Berkeley's graduate programs in the top 10.
