About Trinity School of Natural Health
Trinity School's intention is to educate students for their own personal development, not necessarily to go into practice. Trinity is not accredited by any agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, and it does not intend to seek such accreditation. Therefore, its programs are not necessarily on par with natural health education and training standards, employers may not recognize the credentials granted, and graduates are not eligible for licensure. Additionally, students cannot apply for federal financial aid.
Trinity School is a non-denominational, Christian-based institution that offers non-traditional programs in the natural health field. The programs focus on integrating the mind, body, and spirit to live a healthy and natural lifestyle. It was one of the first schools to offer home study courses. Trinity was founded in 1991 by Dr. Wendell Whitman and is now run by his daughter, Julie Whitman-Kline.
Trinity College offers six self-paced programs of study: Associate Degree in Biblical Studies (ABS), Certified Health Specialist (CHS), Certificate in Nutritional Counseling (CNC), Master Herbalist (MH), Master Iridologist (MI), and Doctor of Naturopathy (ND). Some of the courses offered through these programs include herbology, accupressure, nutrition and wellness, aromatherapy, homeopathy, eye analysis, and reflexology.
Program requirements range from 256 hours (CHS) to 1,264 hours (ND). Students complete coursework as their schedules permit. When a program section is complete, students mail homework and tests to Trinity for grading. Earning at least 85% qualifies as passing the section, and the school then sends the next portion of coursework via postal service.
Since Trinity School is not an approved naturopathic medical education program, graduates from its ND program do not meet the requirements to take the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), which are required by 16 states in order to practice naturopathic medicine.
Students are required to be high school graduates or hold a GED. They are not required to take the SAT or ACT, nor do they need to have completed any college coursework. Enrollment can be done online. These are self-study courses and thus there is no registration deadline.
Tuition & Financial Aid
In August 2012, tuition varied by program, ranging from $695 (CHS) to $3,195 (ND). All other programs are offered at $1,500 each, but prices were subject to change. Students have the option to enroll in a 4-program package that includes the Certificate in Nutritional Counseling, Certified Health Specialist, Master Herbalist, and Doctor of Naturopathy programs. This package is offered at a discounted price of $3,955. Additionally, pricing discounts may be offered for set time periods of enrollment or to students who can pay for their programs up-front. Books are an additional cost.
Again, it's important to note that Trinity is not accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-approved agency; therefore, its students are not eligible for federal financial aid, including grants and loans. Trinity also does not offer financial aid. Students have the option of making monthly payments.
