Just 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta, Emory University in suburban Oxford is best known for studies in medicine and health care. The Methodist-sponsored university is ranked #17 on the 2008 America's Best Colleges list. In addition to its overall ranking, Emory took top 20 honors for its programs in business, finance and marketing.

Emory awards associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees through its nine schools and colleges. The most popular majors on campus are business administration and management, psychology, political science and government, economics and biological sciences. Emory's study abroad program is also very popular with 41 percent student participation in 40 countries around the world.

In addition to individual research centers devoted to the study of medicine and law, Emory is actively involved in research in the field of health care and is home to Georgia's largest and most comprehensive health care system. Emory is also a leader in HIV and AIDS research, treatment and prevention with collaborative partnerships with the Center for Disease Control, the American Cancer Society and the Carter Center.

Students at Emory compete in a 'most selective' admission process with just a 32 percent acceptance rate. Typical incoming freshmen graduate in the top 25 percent of their high school classes, have a grade point average of 3.7 and SAT test scores between 1,300 and 1,470. Class sizes are also exceptionally small at Emory with a student-to-faculty ratio of just 7:1 offering great classroom interaction.
