Iowa State University is located in Ames, Iowa approximately 35 miles north of Des Moines. The most popular undergraduate majors are business, management and marketing, engineering, agriculture and visual and performing arts. Iowa State University awards certificates in addition to bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees.

Iowa State University, which is located in the urban community of Ames, ranked #85 on the list of America's Best Colleges in 2008. Ames boasts a small town warmth with big city amenities, and has been ranked as the second most livable small city in the nation.

In addition to its overall high ranking among national universities, Iowa State is regarded for its programs in business, as well as chemical and agricultural engineering. In fact, Iowa State's undergraduate engineering program is one of the ten largest programs in the United States. Iowa is also known for its outstanding programs in architecture, interior design and landscape design.

Iowa State awards certificates, as well as bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees with a 100 possible majors. Twenty percent of the students find themselves in business, management and marketing, followed closely by engineering. Other popular majors include agriculture, visual and performing arts and biological and biomedical sciences.

Students seeking admission to Iowa State compete in a 'more selective' process with a 90 percent acceptance rate. Typical incoming students have a grade point average of 3.5 and ACT test scores between 22 and 27. In addition, 93 percent of students rank in the top 50 percent of their graduating high school classes.
