Rice University, a private institution founded in 1912, is of the most respected research universities in the nation. Ranking #17 on America's Best Colleges list of 2008 from U.S. News & World Report, Rice is often referred to as a 'Southern Ivy' due to its strong academic programs. Renowned for undergraduate studies, Rice also has a strong reputation for its graduate and research opportunities. Its engineering programs annually rank among the top 20 of the nation.

Rice is set on a campus of nearly 300 acres in the city of Houston. Located near the Museum District, the campus provides easy access to the city's important cultural institutions. Nearby Rice Village offers eclectic restaurants, shops and plenty of nightlife. There is also much to do on campus with more than 200 student organizations available.

Rice University offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs through eight schools as well as in many interdisciplinary programs. Rice University has an undergraduate student body of about 3,000. Of the 'most selective' schools in the nation, Rice has a freshman acceptance rate of just 24 percent. Incoming students typically have scores in the range of 1330 to 1540 on the SAT and 30 to 34 on the ACT.
