The University of Kentucky is located in the urban community of Lexington and holds the #122 spot on the 2008 America's Best Colleges list released by U.S. News & World Report. UK is the highest ranked research university in the state and has 17 programs ranked in the nation's top 20, including clinical psychology, nursing, international relations and Hispanic studies. The university's business and engineering programs also rank in the top 100.

UK awards bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in over 250 programs through 17 academic and professional colleges. The most popular majors are psychology, biology, advertising, finance and marketing.

There are 15 libraries on campus, one of which also acts as a federal depository and state public library. In fact, UK's book endowment is the largest among public universities in the nation.

Students who attend the University of Kentucky participate in more than 300 registered campus organizations, including 43 fraternities and sororities, various student activities, and religious, minority and international organizations. The Kentucky Wildcats athletic teams are also a founding member of the Southeastern Conference.

The University of Kentucky is considered a 'more selective' school with an 81 percent acceptance rate. Typical incoming students have a grade point average of 3.5 and ACT test scores between 21 and 26 or SAT test scores between 990 and 1,240.
