The University of Notre Dame is located in South Bend, a city in northern Indiana. The most popular undergraduate majors are business and commerce, engineering, political science and government, pre-medicine and theology. The University of Notre Dame offers bachelors, masters and doctoral level degree programs.

A leading American research institution, the University of Notre Dame is a private Roman Catholic University located in the urban community of South Bend. It is well known for its beautiful campus, and was recently ranked #19 overall in the 2008 America's Best Colleges report by U.S. News & World Report.

In addition to its high overall ranking, Notre Dame was also awarded top 50 honors for its programs in business, accounting, finance, management, engineering and chemical engineering.

Notre Dame offers bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees through its five colleges and one professional school. Nearly 20 percent of students major in business and commerce. Other popular majors include engineering, political science and government, pre-medicine and psychology. The university offers pre-professional programs in medicine and theology and boasts one of top-100 largest library systems in the nation.

One of the universities younger traditions is the Center for Social Concerns, which serves as a catalyst for student volunteerism. In fact, about 80 percent of Notre Dame students engage in some form of voluntary community service during their years at the university.

Students also participate in over 300 registered student organizations, including nine student-run media outlets that include newspapers, a radio and television station and several magazines and journals.

The university's admission requirements are highly competitive. Notre Dame is considered 'most selective' in its admission process with just a 27 percent acceptance rate. Most incoming Notre Dame freshmen graduate in the top 25 percent of their high school classes and have SAT test scores between 1,290 and 1,500 or ACT test scores between 31 and 33.
