Educational Programs Available at Virginia Western Community College

Virginia Western Community College offers a variety of academic programs in health professions, business, liberal arts and more. Classes are offered online, on campus and at off-campus learning centers during the days, evenings and weekends.

School of Business, Technology and Trades

The School of Business, Technology and Trades at Virginia Western Community College offers programs in accounting, paralegal studies, business administration and management. Other available majors include horticulture and information technology. A weekend course teaches basic motorcycle riding. The school also provides career-oriented certificate programs in automotive analysis and repair, as well as air conditioning and repair.

School of Health Professions

Dental hygiene, registered nursing (RN), licensed practical nursing (LPN) and radiation oncology are some of the programs offered through the School of Health Professions. Students interested in health technology degree programs are required to apply to both Virginia Western and to the individual program.

School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Biology, chemistry, physics and geology are among the program types offered by the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Virginia Western's Associate of Science programs are designed for easy transfer to a 4-year institution through an agreement between Virginia Western and public and private colleges in Virginia. Some other available majors include math, environmental science, civil engineering and computer-aided drafting.

Workforce Solutions/Lifelong Learning Division

Virginia Western's Workforce Solutions/Lifelong Learning Division provides training, skill and resource information for students, as well as support services to existing and new businesses throughout Virginia. Classes are offered on campus and through distance learning in many subject areas, including accounting, law and legal topics, veterinary assisting, grant writing, creative writing and graphic design.

Personal development and interest courses are available in various subjects, including health and wellness, digital photography and family issues like healthy meals or helping children read. Computer and technology classes range from basic computer literacy to multimedia design, database management, certification preparation, PC networking, security and computer programming.
